Many people within the Alexandra community will remember William Bodkin as the driving force behind the first local museum, which has evolved into the Central Stories Museum today.

Born in 1883, William studied law at Otago University and was admitted to the bar in 1909.

Additionally William Bodkin worked in politics and in parliament.

He married Elizabeth McCorkindale, who was known for women's rights and childcare.

Knighted in 1954, he died later in Alexandra in 1964.

Further information can be found in the panels.
