The Wool Away exhibition is a history of sheep and stations from the Central Otago area.
Matakanui Station 1 was settled in 1861 and run by George Thomson and family. As it exists today, it consists of 23,000 acres rising to 5000 on the Dunstan mountains.
The station winters 15,000 sheep and 1100 head of Hereford cattle.
